How To Finally Overcome Your Fear of Public Speaking

For those of you who don’t yet know, today is a very special day…

It’s Freedom From Fear of Speaking Day (July 2nd).

Yep! It’s a real thing. It’s a day to mark because so many people around the world struggle with it.

Also, it’s a reminder that you’re not alone if you struggle with it too.

And can I tell you something that might feel like a gentle exhale?

That racing heart before you speak...

Those sweaty palms...

That voice in your head asking "What if I mess up?"

It's not a sign that you're broken.

It's not proof that you're "not ready."

It's simply your brilliant mind trying to keep you safe.

But here's the part we need to talk about...

Safety and silence aren't the same thing.

Sometimes what feels like protection is actually prevention, stopping you from sharing the very wisdom, insight, and leadership your voice was meant to carry.

I know, because I've been there.

Standing in courtrooms, feeling my voice shake.

Walking onto the TEDx stage, wondering if my words would matter.

Choosing, again and again, to speak up even when fear showed up too.

Here's what I learned:

Courage isn't the absence of fear…

It's the presence of purpose.

And your purpose? It's too important to stay silent.

So today, I want to invite you to do something brave.

Not because you feel ready.

Not because the fear is gone.

But because your voice matters more than your fear.

Because here's what I know for sure:

Your voice isn't just about what you say.

It's about who you become when you finally give yourself permission to be heard.

And following on from this… to celebrate this day, I’m doing something special.
